Author FAQ

The questions our editorial office is asked most often.

Nothing to submit and nothing to have your work reviewed. An article processing charge of US$48.63 (PhP 3,000 as of 26 July 2026) is requested only after your manuscript has been accepted. See article processing charges.

No. Ascend does not offer expedited review, guaranteed acceptance, or preferential treatment in return for payment. Editorial decisions rest exclusively on scholarly merit, fit with scope, methodological rigour and ethical compliance. Payment is not requested until after the decision has been made.

Yes. The official template carries the journal's requirements as inline comments. Read all of them before writing — formatting problems are the most common reason a manuscript is returned before review.

All submissions are screened with Turnitin, and the similarity index must be 20% or below. Turnitin's AI-detection features may also be used. You are responsible for passing both checks before submitting.

Yes. Authors retain copyright while granting the journal the right to publish and disseminate the work. Articles are licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0, which permits sharing and adaptation for non-commercial purposes with proper citation. See copyright and licensing.

Two independent experts, under double-blind conditions. Where their evaluations conflict significantly, a third reviewer is appointed. You receive their comments consolidated into a single evaluation form.

One to two weeks. Address each comment with reference to the specific remark and page number. If you disagree with a suggestion, say so in your response and explain which parts you have not followed and why — reasoned disagreement is part of review.

For grammar and language refinement, data analysis support, visualisation and reference management — yes, provided you disclose it in the methodology or acknowledgements. AI cannot be an author, and drafting an entire manuscript with AI is prohibited. You remain responsible for verifying every reference. See the AI policy.

Approval from an accredited ethics review board, with the institution's name and the ethics clearance number stated in the manuscript. Informed consent must be obtained from participants, or from legal guardians where participants are minors.

No. Manuscripts must be unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere. Simultaneous submission wastes reviewers' unpaid time and is treated as a breach of publication ethics.
